Lord Jagannath is a revered Hindu deity worshipped primarily in Odisha, India. The name means "Lord of the Universe" and represents the divine cosmic consciousness. Jagannath is traditionally depicted as a form of Lord Krishna and is the central deity of the Jagannath Temple in Puri, one of Hinduism's most sacred pilgrimage sites.
The deity is known for inclusivity and accessibility in worship—devotees from all castes and backgrounds are welcome in his temple, a progressive stance historically rare in Hindu practice. Lord Jagannath is celebrated during the famous Rath Yatra (chariot festival), where massive wooden chariots carry the deity through streets in a spectacular annual procession.
Jagannath symbolizes compassion, protection, and universal love. The deity is typically represented alongside his siblings, Balabhadra and Subhadra, representing different divine aspects. Worship of Lord Jagannath promotes spiritual awakening, devotion, and the pursuit of liberation through faith and surrender.
